Oscar Jack Piastri (born 6 April 2001) is an Australian racing driver currently competing in Formula One for McLaren.
Piastri won the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup with R-ace GP, and won the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship and 2021 Formula 2 Championship with Prema Racing. He is only the sixth driver to win the GP2/Formula 2 Championship in their rookie season, and the fifth driver to win the GP3/Formula 3 Championship and the GP2/Formula 2 Championship in consecutive seasons. He is the first driver in history to win the Formula Renault Eurocup, Formula 3, and Formula 2 championships (or equivalent) in successive rookie years.[2]
Personal life
Oscar Piastri was born to Chris and Nicole (née MacFadyen) Piastri in Melbourne, Australia. He grew up in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton. He was privately educated at Haileybury College Melbourne and then Haileybury and Imperial Service College in England as a boarding pupil on a sports scholarship.[3][4][5] Chris Piastri served as his son's mechanic during Oscar's early racing years in Australia and is now the founder and owner of HP Tuners, a vehicle diagnostics automotive software company.[6] Oscar has three sisters.[7] He has Italian, Yugoslavian, Japanese, Indian, and Chinese heritage.[8][9][10] He is a keen Richmond Tigers supporter.[11] He follows the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, after a post on his X profile asking for recommendations of which team to support.[12]
